Infertilitatea involuntara reprezinta incapacitatea de a concepe un produs de sarcina, dupa 12 luni de contacte sexuale neprotejate. Timpul mediu necesar conceptiei este de aproximativ 3 luni.

Se estimeaza ca 10-15% din cupluri sunt afectate de aceasta afectiune.Incidenta este in crestere din cauza sarcinilor tarzii si a incidentei crescute a bolilor inflamatorii pelviene sau a celor cu transmitere sexuala.
