Coma reprezinta o stare de pierdere a cunostintei, persoanele fiind in viata, iar procesele lor interne continuand sa functioneze, ei nefiind insa capabili sa raspunda in mod constient la mediul inconjurator. Uneori acestia pot sa zambeasca, sa-si deschida ochii, si chiar par sa incerce sa vorbeasca.

Coma poate fi provocata de o ruptura a vaselor creierului, de diabet, de uremie sau de alte boli, precum scleroza multipla.
